“El venadito” is a traditional song in polka rhythm, which can be heard from a wide variety of
Mexican singers and performers. The text treats the image of an animal as one
loving, harmless, sweet and traditional character.
“I want to be your fine pearl in your earrings, giving you kisses and biting your cheek. Why are you so beautiful?
I cant resist you.”
It is believed that it has been one of the painter Frida Kahlo’s favorite songs, she seemed to
really have liked the picture of the animal. She had a deer at her house, which she called “Granizo”and that was one of her most famous paintings: “El venado herido” (The Wounded Deer). The painting was a self-portrait in which she depicted the physical and mental pain she went through suffering a series of injuries sustained in a traffic accident.
In 1994 Victor Ibáñez founded the first Mariachi group in Berlin,
*Mariachi Internacional El Dorado* and became an important disseminator of Mexican
Folk music in Germany.
He plays an important role in the development and promotion of this genre of music and contributes
special attention with the selection and interpretation of the repertoire. Victor Ibáñez shares an important excerpt from the Mexican tradition and plays with great enthusiasm the Romantic Boleros, Rancheras, Corridos, Sones and Jarabes.
He appears at a variety of festivals and cultural events, family celebrations (weddings, Baptisms, birthdays, etc.), at celebrations of German and Mexican companies and institutions (Ibero-American Institute, Martin-Gropius-Bau, Ethnological Museum, Humboldt Forum, Mexican Embassy, etc.) and at most diverse and unusual places. His main task is and was the musical framing of the “Ofrenda des Dia de Muertos”.
The festival has also been organized by the Calaca e.V. association in Berlin since 1994.
Uta Fiedler-Reetz is member of the DSO Berlin (German Symphony Orchestra Berlin) since two decades, being part of 2nd violin group.
She has played in several chamber music settings and also participated in some world music – as well as film music projects.
